A patient (in wheelchair) with advanced COPD addresses a conference for
nurses at the University Hospital in Lattakia, Syria. The patient had just
been released from the ICU, where he had been treated for a severe
exacerbation of COPD. He told the audience: Do not do like me. I have been
advised to quit smoking by my doctor since ten years ago, when I consulted
him for chronic cough, expectoration and shortness of breath.

The COPD patient is joined by a nurse (at left), a smoker who realized that
her coughing and expectorating most the of time meant that she might have COPD. The two of them are now willing to quit smoking. The picture shows them
putting out their final cigarettes in the ashtray.

The man at left is another nurse and a smoker, who joined COPD patient and
the other nurse in promising to quit smoking for good.
